No – I’m not talking about anyone’s love life (tricked you!). And the true question is, ‘can I work out in 4 minutes and see results.’ The simple answer is yes.
If you haven’t heard of Tabata training then it is time to educate yourself. Tabata isn’t the dyslexic equivalent of ‘to barter’, it is a high intensity interval training which lasts 4 minutes – with the simple aim of getting your heart rate to maximum in a short period – increasing your metabolic rate, to a furnace esque level.
It’s been said Tabata training can help you burn more fat (and make you look 200-percent leaner) than a traditional 60-minute aerobic workout… so 4 minutes 4 times a week is pretty good for the busy individual (4 times a week being a good level).
How to do a Tabata circuit
Pick an exercise – for example rowing – work as hard as you can for 20 seconds and then rest for 10 seconds. Repeat for 8-20 times. It gets emotional don’t get me wrong… and I am ashamed to admit I saw stars once (okay it’s now sounding a little like love life – but it’s not a confession I promise).
Possible exercises have been listed below (for inspiration)
- Jump squats
- Dumbbell squat
- Squat thrust
- Mountain climbers
For reference reading around, if you have high blood pressure, or a history of cardiovascular problems, or you’re pregnant, you should consult your doctor before starting Tabata.
Thank you as per and much love x
And, yes, my god do I know I am gong to get stick for that photo…
