Mornings – love them or hate them they have their benefits to health and fitness.
I personally prefer exercising in the morning. Why? Honestly, because I’m probably not awake enough to realise what I am doing to myself. However I would recommend mornings…not just for the bragging rights at work but also for 4 important things;
Morning work outs boost your metabolism
Yep – it’s true. Your metabolic rate will increase with morning workouts. The rate it increases to is judged by your current fitness level and how hard you work but it does let you burn more calories all day. For the fellow readers out there it is called ‘post-exercise oxygen consumption’ and if you want to read about it, it’s maybe worth looking into Wikipedia.
Your mood will improve
Its common knowledge, when you exercise your body releases endorphins (feel-good chemicals) in your brain. So starting the day with a better mood through exercise and even the morning email abuse will seem less intimidating.
Less distractions and less people to feel self-conscious around
The above is a big thing for me. I hate crowded gyms and I hate feeling people want the equipment I am using. Because of this I tend to go early so I have time to do what I want went. And there is less people watching to distract you!
Your hormones are working for you
As mentioned, in the early morning hours, crucial hormones (i.e., testosterone) that help build muscle mass are elevated in the body. By exercising in the morning, you’re taking advantage of these naturally circulating hormones as they’re peaking, rather than later in the day when they’re lower.
